Dental office receptionists can expect to make an hourly wage between $10.13 and $20.30, with the median landing at about $14.00 per hour.

Responsibilities of a front office dental specialist may include:

  • Greeting patients, vendors and visitors
  • Answering telephone calls and taking messages
  • Scheduling and confirming appointments
  • Taking billing and insurance information
  • Using a computer to update information and generate reports
  • Handling incoming and outgoing mail

What training is required for front office dental specialist?

No formal degree or training is required to become a front office dental specialist, but candidates can make themselves more marketable by learning to use word processing and spreadsheet software proficiently.

Classes or certification programs are available that cover topics including collection procedures, insurance claims, administrative procedures and dental terminology. Such training can give candidates an edge over others in line for the same job.

When and where do front office dental specialists work?

Most work during regular business hours, some part time. Front office dental specialists work in dental offices primarily, but may also be employed in schools, nursing homes and correctional facilities.
